Changi Airport Group unveiled initial plans for the development of Singapore Changi Airport's (SIN) Terminal 4 and the construction of additional aircraft parking stands. The new Terminal 4's planned capacity for 16 million passengers per year increases the airport's overall capacity to 82 million. Construction on the SGD 600 million project will begin this year and is expected to finish in 2017.

Built on the site of the old Budget Terminal, the development will feature a new two-story terminal building with a height of 25 metres and a total area of 160,000 square metres. According to CAG, the terminal will meet the operational needs of both regional full-service and low-cost airlines, but it will "primarily handle narrow-body aircraft and be designed to enable quick turnaround of flights."

Designed in the same style as terminals 1 and 2, Terminal 4 will include retail outlets and aerobridges at boarding gates. CAG plans to add passenger-friendly facilities, such as kiosks for self check-in, self-bag tagging and self-bag drops.

"Throughout its history, Changi Airport has always stayed ahead of its capacity needs. This approach has underpinned Changi's success as an air hub - an airport that passengers love and appreciate," said CAG's CEO, Lee Seow Hiang. "Our infrastructure investments over the next four to five years lay the groundwork for us to continue delivering a great Changi experience and attracting more airlines to fly to Changi Airport."

CAG also plans to increase the number of aircraft parking stands to support the needs of all airlines operating at Changi. The land plot south of Terminal 3 will be converted into an aircraft parking area able to handle 17 narrow-body and nine wide-body aircraft stands. The number of parking stands at Changi Airport will increase by 24 percent to more than 180. A multistory car parking lot capable of housing 1,200 vehicles will also be constructed next to the terminal.
